World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)

In 2013, Poland chaired the WIPO regional group of Central Europe countries and Baltic States. Within the scope of copyright law, Poland made an important contribution to the preparations and negotiations leading to the adoption of the Marrakesh Treaty, according to which parties shall enter into their national regulations the provisions on permitted use for blind people so they can easily use domestic and foreign books and newspapers. An important achievement of the WIPO Committee on copyright law and related rights is also the adoption of the Beijing Treaty on artistic audio-visual performances in 2012. Poland signed this Treaty in June 2013.

The Polish representatives participated in the works of:

  • Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights
  • Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore
  • Advisory Committee on Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights.
